Key forward Peter Wright made his return in style, kicking five goals in his first game for 2023.
Wright proved a tough matchup for the Carlton defence, reminding fans why he was crowned the 2022 Crichton medalist.
Jye Caldwell continued to work hard in the middle, securing 25 possessions and six tackles, helping power Essendon at the coal face.
