The Preston Motors Essendon Football Club Annual Golf Cup was held on Monday at the home of the Australian Masters - Huntingdale Golf Course. In perfect conditions, 22 teams competed in the 18-hole Ambrose competition. The day kicked off with a relaxed lunch in the club rooms followed by a shot-gun tee off at 1pm. New recruit Damien Peverill was one of the players showing off his golf talents. ""It was a fantastic day - all the boys enjoy playing a bit of golf in their spare time, so it was great to play on such a good course,"" Peverill said.

A line-up of Essendon players put their golf skills to the test. Paul Barnard, Justin Blumfield, Blake Caracella, Chris Heffernan, Jason Johnson, Scott Lucas, Joe Misiti and Damien Peverill led the Bomber assault on Huntingdale. Assistant coach Robert Shaw and past players David Calthorpe, Peter Cransberg, Ken Fletcher and Ted Fordham also joined in on the fun. Corporate teams of three were teamed up with an Essendon player or coach. After four and a half hours on the course, it was club sponsor Huntsman along with David Calthorpe who stole the honours - winning the team event. Development and welfare coordinator David Flood, hit the longest drive and top-up player Luke Hawkins won the nearest the pin award.

Competitors enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the bar followed by a three course dinner in the picturesque club rooms. Essendon favourite Joe Misiti was entertaining as Master of Ceremonies and Fitness coach John Quinn gave an inspiring speech about the Essendon Football Club. The Golf Day was a fantastic success and the club would like to thank Preston Motors for sponsoring the Golf Cup and all competitors for participating in the day.

A noteable 2001 rookie turned up to the home of the Australian Masters ready to play in jeans. Pev we know denim is in at the moment but not on the sacred Huntingdale course! It was an expensive learning experience for the 22-year-old, paying $65 for a pair of shorts from the Pro Shop.

After driving around the Grand Prix circuit last week in an F1 car, Blake Caracella now thinks he can rival Michael Schumacher. However, from all reports Caracella needs a few driving lessons. He nearly crashed and rolled the golf buggy on more than one occasion!
