Forward Peter Wright is putting his best foot forward to be available for Essendon’s blockbuster round 13 clash with Carlton on Sunday.
The reigning Crichton medallist is looking to play his first game of 2023 after overcoming the shoulder injury which struck him down just days before round one.
General Manager of Performance Daniel McPherson says Wright’s participation in main sessions is pushing the 26-year-old closer to a return.
“Pete joined in main training last week and will do so again this week ahead of a potential return against the Blues,” McPherson said.
“Pete’s the ultimate professional, and has worked incredibly hard over the last few months to get himself back to this point. We’ll get through this week’s main training session, and make the final decision after that.”
Midfielder Darcy Parish is on track to return soon after mid-season bye.
McPherson says Parish is inching toward re-joining main training with the hope of being available for Essendon’s trip to Perth.
“Darcy’s continuing to build his speed work and footy integration as he nears a return to full training,” McPherson said.
“He’s progressing well and all things going to plan, he’ll be a chance to return for round 15."
