Daniher is one of the most famous names in AFL circles but it is equally as famous in the Northern Riverina Football League that is home to Ungarie Football Club. Of course, Ungarie was the starting point for all the Daniher boys – the place they honed their football skills before heading to the big smoke. And it is where Chris Daniher returned to following his time at Windy Hill and not surprisingly he has dominated the competition. Just last week Chris collected the Northern Riverina League best and fairest – he has now won three of the past four Evans Memorial Trophies.

And Chris is by no means the only Daniher name inscribed on the trophy. In the mid-1950’s a fellow by the name of Jim Daniher won the award. Of course he is the patriarch of the famous Daniher clan. In 1975 a young bloke by the name of Terry was runner-up. There were no thoughts of another Daniher finishing second this season. Chris polled 24 votes to finish 14 votes ahead of his 16-year-old teammate Ryan McClintock.

And for your information, last weekend, Ungarie defeated Barellan United Football Club in last weekend’s Qualifying final.
