Clutch Durham and a special Dreamtime victory

The Bomber's put an end to the streak against Richmond in a fashion fitting of the Dreamtime blockbuster match.

Sam Durham kicked true with 12 seconds to go, placing the Dons back in front by a point, the eventual final margin.

Hobbs puts pen to paper 

In exciting news, the club announced this week that young midfielder Ben Hobbs has extended his contract to remain in red and black for at least another two years.  

Taken with the 13th selection in the 2021 national draft, Hobbs has impressed across a variety of different positions early in his career, averaging 18 disposals from his four full outings in 2023. 

Dons' Dreamtime learning

For Essendon's annual Dreamtime clash for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, the club was thrilled to welcome back legend Michael Long to the NEC Hangar. 

Long was joined by Treaty for Victoria and the Koorie Youth Will Shake Spears group to kick off the week in spectacular fashion with a presentation to both players and staff.

Fixture release: Dons return to Friday night footy

The AFL released the fixture for the final nine rounds with the Dons attaining a few key primetime matchups.

The Bombers will play their first Friday night fixture for 2023 against the Western Bulldogs.

Essendon will also feature in two Saturday night prime time games against Geelong (round 18) and Sydney (round 20).

VFLW: Ugle “proud” ahead of Sir Doug Nicholls Round

With the club again preparing to celebrate the contributions of its Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people ahead of the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round, Co-Captain and proud Noongar woman Courtney Ugle paid homage to the special week. 

Ugle lead out her VFLW Bombers alongside fellow Indigenous Co-Captain Mia-Rae Clifford.

VWFL make it two from two

Essendon have continued their winning ways to start the 2023 season, downing Richmond with a strong second half performance.

The 11.11 (77) to 9.6 (60) result marked the first time the two sides had met since their 2022 Grand Final matchup, with the Bombers making amends this time around.
