VFL Senior Coach Leigh Tudor talks us through the performances of Essendon’s AFL-listed players from the VFL side’s match against Brisbane.
Will Snelling
28 disposals, five tackles, five marks
His work rate was really good, did a little bit more midfield this week. A good mix of contested and uncontested possessions. He accumulated a lot of the ball and tackled well. It was a really solid overall game from Snell.
Lewis Hayes
14 disposals, eight kicks, three marks
Had a really good challenge having to play on Tom Fullarton this weekend, who is a good player for Brisbane. He had some good moments where he competed really hard. It was a good learning experience for him especially regarding positioning on good strong key forwards.
Nick Bryan
20 disposals, 29 hit-outs, four marks
He's been consistent since being back with up. His follow up work is great and he even spent a bit of time back this week. He was one of our better players and continues to showcase new facets to his game.
Alastair Lord
18 disposals, 11 kicks, one tackle
Lord's run and carry was really good and did a great job driving his legs. He was good one on one and did a good job with groundballs. It is exciting to see him improve. Not a bad game from 'Lordy'.
Rhett Montgomerie
23 disposals, nine marks, 17 kicks
Really happy with Rhett, he went down early with an ankle injury and it was 50-50 as to whether he would play out the game. Once he got the all clear he actually started to play better and grit it out. For him to finish the game the way he did intercepting and defensively, I thought he was one of our best.
Pat Voss
Eight disposals, three marks, two goals
Goal kicking was a bit off but he presented well and took the ball at its highest point. We are working on leading pattern stuff with him to help him get to more contests.
Tex Wanganeen
Eight disposals, seven tackles, one goal
Had one of his better games from a running and high speed perspective. His fitness base is back to its best and he even kicked a nice goal. His last month he has been going okay and his defensive pressure has been super.
Cian McBride
Twelve disposals, six marks, 10 kicks
Got a massive corky early but fought through the game. He was quite restricted but played well despite having the injury.
Anthony Munkara
Nine disposals, three marks, two tackles
A slow start for him so we moved him down back. He showed some of his tricks down there, he has quick feet and good agility. Makes good decisions by foot and is starting to build confidence. He show a bit off the half-back flank and embraced the move.
