VFLW Senior Coach Travis Cloke assesses the individual performances of our AFLW-listed players from the weekend.

Danielle Marshall

Seven disposals, two marks, three tackles

Dani played a very offensive game as a defender but worked very strongly in the contest, only beaten once for the whole day. It was an outstanding performance on her behalf, with her communication with the younger defenders a real strength in her game.

Ellyse Gamble

Five disposals, three tackles, one clearance

It was Ellyse’s first game of the VFL campaign after a solid three-week training block. She took a while to find her feet but would eventually flourish with her running patterns and positioning by the end of the game. She was also strong in the air and didn’t lose a one-on-one for the game.

Ash van Loon

Nine disposals, 13 tackles, one clearance

We played Ash as an inside mid for the first time this week and she was very strong in her tackling, finishing with 13 for the day. We’re working with her on her balance at stoppage, and she’ll continue to learn her craft as an inside player and even as a high defensive back.

Sophie van De Heuvel

14 disposals, five marks, three tackles

Sophie continued her great form from the last couple of weeks with her handball receives and running game. It’s a great strength of hers that brings into our brand of football, getting involved on both offence and defence. Playing her on the wing will add another string to her bow at AFLW level.

Georgia Clarke

17 disposals, four marks, one tackle

Georgia has been solid across the whole board for us since joining in the recent Trade Period. It was an exceptional game from her in a more stable role down back this week to get some more continuity in her development. She was outstanding with her ball movement and communication.

Steph Wales

19 disposals, 30 hit-outs, nine clearances

Steph was outstanding in what was probably a career-high game for her. She should come into this week’s match against Box Hill full of confidence, and we look forward to challenging her differently to hopefully take a few more marks and impact the scoreboard going forward.

Amelia Radford

26 disposals, 13 tackles, five clearances

An all-round even game for Amelia, but her bodywork and contest method around stoppages were most prevalent. She had a really good spread of contested and uncontested ball, and her craft will be what she works on most from here.
