Midfielder Darcy Parish is confident Essendon’s faith in their system will bear fruit as they look to bounce back from recent losses.

Speaking to Essendon FC after the side’s close defeat to Port Adelaide on Sunday, Parish cited both senior coach Brad Scott and the playing group’s reassurance in each other as an exciting prospect going forward.

“We wanted to come out and prove ourselves in the contest,” Parish said.

“Brad’s rewarding us and telling us to keep believing, keep trusting in what we’re putting out and putting the work in.”

The Bombers’ early clearance work, particularly led by Dylan Shiel and Jake Stringer, wasn’t lost on Parish, who felt it was a welcome response from previous weeks.

“We got nutted around stoppages last week, so we went to work as a midfield group to get our balance and work together around the clearances,” Parish said.

“We’ve got a lot of depth coming through there now, a lot of weapons and different strengths, and we want to utilise these. We’ve just got to maintain it for longer.”

Parish admitted there’s still work to be done in spreading the centre bounce dominance over sustained periods but remains confident that the foundations are well set for improvement in that area.

“There’s a compliance to get our roles done around that and all being on the same page,” Parish said.

“We’re working through it, it’s just about the consistency and [again] doing it for longer. We’ll get to work and hopefully get there soon."
