Goddard named captain
Essendon midfielder Brendon Goddard has been named captain for Sunday afternoon's clash against Melbourne at the MCG.
Goddard replaces Jobe Watson who will miss the next eight to ten weeks as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn rectus femoris tendon.
The 29-year-old joined the Bombers at the end of the 2012 season as a free agent going on to win the Crichton Medal in his first season at the club.
A member of the club's seven man leadership group Goddard is highly respected among his peers for his leadership both on and off the field.
