In the 28th Anzac Day clash, the Essendon Football Club will honour service men and women who have fought for their country with a specially designed Anzac Day guernsey. The Bombers’ iconic red sash will comprise of red poppies, the commemorative flower of remembrance which is used on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
Red poppies were one of the first plants to re-grow across the battlefields of Northern France and Belgium following the First World War. The poppies are a universal representation of those who lost their lives or suffered in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
The poppies on the Bombers’ guernsey will honour the 233-known Essendon players who have served for our country, including the 20-known players who made the ultimate sacrifice.
