Essendon senior coach Brad Scott will take contingencies for the pending wet weather forecast as his side prepares to face Melbourne in Adelaide for Gather Round.

Up to 20mm of rain is expected for Saturday afternoon's fixture against the Demons.

Scott says the Bombers are ready for all weather options, with the main priority lying in competing against one of the strongest midfields in the competition.

“If Adelaide’s weather’s anything like Melbourne, it’s hard to predict,” Scott said.

“I think even if it is a little damp then we still, against a really strong defensive team like Melbourne, you still need targets to kick too. We’ll have a plan for dry and one for wet (weather football).

“The game always starts in a contest and when you come up against a Melbourne midfield with All-Australian’s everywhere, you’ve got the well-known players in around the contest, so our “way” is to really find balance and if you can compete around the contest, it gives you a chance to get the game looking the way you want it.”

Questioned about his side’s challenging run in the next few weeks, Scott said it's a huge opportunity for his young playing group.

The Bombers face three of the last year's top four in Melbourne, Collingwood and Geelong over the next several weeks, starting with the Demons on Saturday.

“It’s a huge opportunity to test out what we’ve been drilling and the style we want to play against a team that’s really going to challenge us,” Scott said.
