Essendon is awaiting scans to determine the full extent of a shoulder injury suffered by Will Hams in the VFL on the weekend.

Hams suffered the injury while he was being tackled in the second quarter of the Bomber 85 point win over Collingwood.

He played on, but was later taken from the field to have his shoulder iced.

“He had some pain in the back of his shoulder which we’re getting scanned today,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.

“With those back of the shoulder injuries, the prognosis is often very good, it’s just a matter of waiting for that pain to settle down."

Crow said Hams remains a chance to play this week.

“We won’t be ruling him out at this stage, often guys will play that week or a week after.”

Jayden Laverde has undergone surgery on the shoulder he injured against Geelong.

“We’ll be taking as long as Jayden needs for his best long term outcome – whether that’s seven weeks or ten weeks – we’ll be gauging that as we go,” Crow said.

The Bombers have a six-day turnaround before the match against Carlton on Sunday.
