Essendon Chief Executive Xavier Campbell hopes to have finalised the senior coaching appointment by early October.

But he maintains the Club will not be rushed.

“The process will take as long as the process needs to take for us to make a good decision,” Campbell told Triple M.

“It’s such an important opportunity for the Club.

“My gut sort of says some time in the first half of October probably, middle of October at the very latest, but it’ll take the time it needs to take."

The Bombers announced their coaching selection panel earlier this week.

Campbell said the Club doesn’t have a preference for the level of experience the successful applicant should have.

“There is benefits in both,” Campbell said.

“We’re not going in to the first round of interviews saying they have to be a tried Coach, or they have to be an untried Coach.

“We’ll make a decision at the end of the first round (of interviews) around the type of Coach we want.”

As well as searching for a new Coach, the Bombers are also entering the final stages of a football department review.

“It’s given us some great insights in to the gaps in our program,” Campbell said.

“It will come to a conclusion in the next fortnight.”
