It's been a big week for the Bombers after a successful NAB AFL Draft.
On Monday, the Dons selected young gun Elijah Tastas at pick No.5. The Oakleigh Chargers product is a versatile midfielder who has excelled at contested work, he claimed the Charges best and fairest from only six NAB League games.
Night two saw Vic Metro product Lewis Hayes join the Bombers at pick No.25.
At 197cm, Hayes uses his height, combined with his football smarts, to read the play and then contest in the air, regularly intercepting opposition forward entries.
The Davey twins soon joined the party when the Bombers matched Hawthorn’s bid at pick No.45 for Alwyn Jnr, then secured Jayden with pick No.54.
Alwyn Jnr and Jayden are the sons of former Bomber Alwyn Davey, who played 100 games for Essendon throughout his seven-year career.
The rookie draft concluded the 2023 NAB AFL draft week on Wednesday. The Dons selected 22-year-old Rhett Montgomerie, mature age prospect from South Australia.
At 190cm, Montgomerie uses his height and ariel ability to take strong intercept marks across the backline while also having the composure to send the ball back into attack successfully.
Anthony Munkara joins the club as a Category B Rookie selection under the AFL Next Generation Academy rules.
With his height 187cm, and ariel ability, combined with his natural goal sense, Munkara is an exciting prospect for the Bombers.
The Bombers also elevated dynamic forward Nic Martin to their senior list following his impressive debut season where he averaged more than 19 disposals and 19 goals across his 21 senior games.
Wednesday was also top pick Elijah Tastas' first official day at the NEC Hangar. Along with a few other familiar faces of Sam Draper and Matt Guelfi, returning early ahead of next Monday's official start date for senior players.
Thursday was the first official day of the 2022 Indigenous and Multicultural Player Summit. The summit returns for the first time since 2019, with Bombers Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and Tex Wanganeen in attendance, alongside new recruits Anthony Munkara, Alwyn Jnr and Jayden Davey.
