Essendon is weighing up how to best treat injured midfielder David Myers.

The West Australian was helped from the field with a dislocated shoulder just a few minutes into the Bombers season opener against the Swans.

The club is awaiting results of a scan before determining how long he will spend on the sidelines.

“If he needs a reconstruction then he really isn’t available until late August.   So we need to work out the risks versus the benefits.  We’ll make that decision in the next two days,” Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.

Ruckman Tom Bellchambers hurt his knee just before half time but there is no structural damage and he is set to play against the Hawks.

“He can run pain free now as he did throughout the second half.  The way he looks, he’ll play this week,” Dr Reid said.

Patrick Ambrose is also available despite leaving the field after a head clash during the last quarter.

“He makes a habit of that.   He’s got a big laceration, but in the end it’s just a cut.”

Jason Winderlich is continuing his recovery from a back injury.  The club is taking a conservative approach and is hopeful he could be available by the middle of the season.

“We’ll be conservative with him.  There is no time frame on him but I wouldn’t expect him to play for about eight weeks.
