Following the appointment of Brad Scott as Essendon’s senior coach, the Bombers are pleased to announce that assistant coach Daniel Giansiracusa has signed a contract extension for a further two years, keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2025.

Giansiracusa joined the Bombers ahead of the 2021 season and has led the backline for the past two years.

Following his retirement after 265 games for the Western Bulldogs, Giansiracusa immediately switched to coaching, overseeing the Bulldog’s forward line for four years.

In 2019, Giansiracusa took on the role as Footscray’s VFL coach, taking them to finals in his first year at the helm.

With the 2020 VFL season cancelled, Giansiracusa switched his focus to match simulation and oppositional analysis for the Bulldogs’ AFL team.

Giansiracusa’s work was recognised when he was named the 2020 AFL Coaches Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year.

The 40-year-old said he was excited to work closely with the newly appointed coach to take the club into its new chapter.

“While this year has been challenging, we have such an exciting opportunity to reset and move forward under Brad’s guidance,” Giansiracusa said.

“Brad has a clear direction for the club and we are both aligned in our coaching philosophies and I look forward to working with him to bring out the best in our playing group.

“Our list is young but has a lot of potential. As a coaching group, we will educate and work with our players to set the standards required to be a successful team.

“Essendon has been fantastic for my development over the past two seasons and I’m excited to continue my coaching journey at the club.”

Essendon general manager, football Josh Mahoney said the club was thrilled to secure Giansiracusa’s services for a further two years.

“Daniel is highly respected and well regarded throughout the football industry, with extensive experience as a coach and player.

“We are thrilled to have him commit to the club. Daniel’s relationship with the players and knowledge across the ground will be pivotal in this new chapter of the club.”
