Andrew Welsh has been a revelation in the midfield in recent weeks – it was a role that initially began in a tagging capacity but one that evolved further against Brisbane with a career-high 33 possessions that included 12 clearances. Does Welsh get your vote?
David Hille has been in sensational form in the ruck. Not only is his ruck work giving his midfield an armchair ride but he is winning a lot of the football himself – he is averaging five more possessions a game in 2008 than in 2007. His attack on the football has been superb – just ask Simon Black who felt the full force of Hille on Saturday night at The Dome. Perhaps Hille gets your vote.
Angus Monfries wanted to develop midfield fitness during the summer and while he has not spent much time in the midfield, it has held him in good stead across half forward. Monfries tireless running has made him a key link man for the Bombers and his last month of football has been as good as he has produced. Does Monfries get your vote?
Jay Nash, Jay Neagle and Sam Lonergan all had limited exposure at senior level coming into this season but are quickly establishing themselves in the senior side. Nash has provided some great rebound off half back, Neagle is a dangerous third tall inside 50m while Lonergan’s courage and hardness has certainly added to the Essendon midfield.
