A fuming Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy is not making any excuses for the 96-point loss to Port Adelaide yesterday. ""It has nothing to do with who was out of the team. It has every thing to do with the way you play footy and how you compete. That performance was unacceptable as far as I am concerned and the players have been told that,"" Sheedy said.

Essendon is in its lowest ladder position in the history of the club after the massive defeat. ""We will be last, we are starting last, literally on the bottom and it is a long crawl back up the ladder from 16th.

""I will write that in my diary and I will just look at it and I will say, 'OK, that's where we are starting from this year'. The percentage loss is enormous,"" he said immediately after the game.

Sheedy slammed his players and said they have got too far ahead of themselves after recent reports in the media stating the team is certain top four finishers. ""You hope that it doesn't (happen), but in the end, you can get inflated opinions of yourself, and many sportsmen do,"" he said.

Sheedy is bitterly disappointed by the massive defeat and said the team has a lot of work to do this week to turn things around against St.Kilda. ""We have to search for pace; you just can't switch on a light for pace,"" said Sheedy. ""I am not going back to a slow midfield.""

Yesterday’s loss was the team’s worst defeat since 1997 when Fremantle destroyed Essendon by 97-points at Subiaco.
