Following a career-best season, versatile Bomber Matt Guelfi has recommitted to the Essendon Football Club for a further two years.
The 25-year-old will remain in the red and black until at least the end of 2024.
Named as the Bombers’ 2018 Lindsay Griffiths Rising Star, Guelfi has continued to build his game in recent years and this season, having established himself in Essendon’s forward line.
Throughout his 20 games in 2022, Guelfi has been the ultimate competitor, registering career-high games in goals (four), tackles (10) and inside-50s (seven).
Having played 83 games to date in his career, the Western Australian was drafted to the Bombers at pick No.76 in the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft.
Guelfi said he was excited to have put pen-to-paper at season’s end.
“There’s no doubt it’s been a testing season for us, but I really believe in where this playing group can go and I’m excited to stay on,” Guelfi said.
“I am grateful to the club for the opportunity to remain with this group. I really feel like I’m building some consistency in my game, so I already look forward to getting stuck into the upcoming pre-season to continue to build on that.”
General Manager of List and Recruiting Adrian Dodoro said the contract extension was a worthy reward for Guelfi’s season.
“Matt’s ability to help the team where needed this season has been a real strength of his, and this extension is a fitting reward for the work he has put in to improve his game this year,” Dodoro said.
“We look forward to seeing what Matt can produce with continual improvement over the coming years.”
