Daniel Coghlan and James Ferry have been named in the VFL state squad that will take on the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) on Sunday May 29 at Adelaide Oval.
The Bombers duo are in the initial 30-man squad for the first time after a some standout performances this season.
Essendon’s captain Coghlan, who plays his 50th match for the Bombers on Sunday, has played every match this season and been an integral part of the midfield group.
Ferry, a versatile defender, has been shifted forward in recent weeks to stretch the oppositions defence.
The list will soon be cut to a 25-man training squad after this weekend’s matches.
The VFL squad will come together for the first time on May 24, in the first of three training sessions before a team of 23 will be named for the state game showdown.
Coghlan and Ferry will be in action tomorrow when the Bombers head to Coburg’s Piranha Park to face the Lions from 2pm.
The Lions home game will be supporting the Breast Cancer Network Australia.
