David Myers returned to Essendon’s side for the first time since round one, but his bad luck with injury continued.
In just his second match of the season Myers was brilliant early as he gathered seven possessions in the first ten minutes against the Crows.
But a knock to the back during the third quarter ended the midfielder’s match.
“It’s pretty sore, just a bit more bad luck for the year unfortunately,” Myers said.
“I can’t lift my leg, can’t turn and was no chance of being able to jog let alone play footy.
“Unfortunately I just had to sit out the rest of the game and hopefully I’ll be able to play next week.”
Myers injured his shoulder in the opening minutes of the season against Sydney in round one.
After several months on the sideline he returned through the VFL, before a knee problem forced him to spend more time out of the game.
“We’re professional footballers, we’re paid, it’s our job, it’s what we want to do and when you can’t do it, it’s incredibly frustrating,” he said.
“All you want to do is be out there with your mates and try to help them out.
“To not be able to do that has been very difficult.”
The importance of Myers to the Essendon side was evident throughout his two and a half quarters against Adelaide.
Despite not playing the final quarter, he gathered 22 disposals and his booming left leg set up a Cale Hooker goal in the first quarter.
