After bursting onto the scene in 2014 young forward Patrick Ambrose is set for an important role supporting key pair Joe Daniher and Jake Carlisle nex season.

Ambrose played in Essendon's VFL team during 2013 before joining the AFL side as a rookie at the begining of last season before going on to play 16 matches at senior level.

The 22 year old will be recognised for his strong debut season when he is officially elevated to the club's senior list at the National Draft on November 27 on the Gold Coast.

The young forward showed an ability to maintain a high level of defensive pressure inside the Bombers forward half during 2014 and will now turn his attention to improving the offensive aspects of his game.

"I really enjoyed Patty's year last year, he is a terrific team player who does a lot of the hard yards for his teammates and puts a lot of defensive pressure on as a forward," Basset said.

"He is a hard unit. I think he finished the season with a lot more stitches in his had than what he started with.

"We are looking for him to develop his offence, his ability to take contested marks and get in better positions to lead up because he is a very good kick for goals."

"Hopefully he can kick a few more goals next season."

Bassett praised the fitness of Elliott Kavanagh and Kurt Aylett for the way they had started their 2015 pre-season campaign.

The pair finished second and third behind Ambrose in the club's recent time trial at Princess Park.

Daniher is also showing strong progress with Carlisle set to return to the track with the club's senior playing list on Monday morning.
