Essendon's AFLW side took away a win in the club's first official practice match at the NEC Hangar on Saturday.
The Bombers showed promising signs in the opening two quarters with Bonnie Toogood and Amber Clarke amongst the goal kickers for the home side, whilst pick number 8 in the National Draft, Paige Scott, was involved heavily across half-forward.
Steph Wales showed her huge potential after she was thrown into the ruck with Georgia Borg leaving the field early with an injury, leading the way for the best part of three quarters with Sophie Alexander also showing her class, pinch-hitting in the middle.
Despite that, the Power were the stronger of the two sides in the opening half taking a two goal lead into half time.
The second half saw Essendon slot 6 goals with Fede Frew on fire in the forward line banging through two in two minutes including a crafty snap that got the Dons faithful cheering on the sidelines.
Bonnie Toogood was fierce up forward and finished the game with three goals whilst down back, Jacqui Vogt took charge, leading the young backline. Maddy Prespakis, Cat Phillips, Steph Cain and Georgia Gee all showed their experience and class leading the way around the ground.
The Bombers will now turn their attention to round one when they take on the Hawks in their inaugural home game on Saturday 27 August.
Final score
Essendon 8.8.56
Port Adelaide 5.6.36
