Essendon Football Club is thrilled to announce Dyson Heppell has confirmed his commitment to the Club next season.
Dyson joins David Myers, Cale Hooker, Travis Colyer and Heath Hocking as the latest Bomber to recommit to the Club.
The 23 year-old said his passion for the Club was as strong as ever.
“I’m super excited to have made the decision to continue my career at Essendon, there’s no doubt the players and people at the Club were a major reason,” Heppell said.
“I put a process in place and took my time to make sure I got to a place where I was 100% committed to the football Club.
“I’ve loved watching how the boys have gone about their footy so far, I can see the processes John and the coaching staff have put in place, and you can see those plans are starting to take shape on the field.
“I’m really excited about being a part of this team and I truly believe this playing group can be successful in the years to come.”
Senior Coach, John Worsfold, said Dyson would play a major role in driving the standards of the playing group.
“I know everyone involved with the Football Club is rapt to have Dyson back in for next season,” Worsfold said.
“Dyson is invested in the direction and culture we are building at the Club. His care for his teammates is unquestionable, and so is his drive to see his side improve and rise to the level we know we need to get to.
“He’s already been named an All-Australian and a Crichton Medallist, and there’s no doubt his best football is still ahead of him. I think Bomber fans should be excited about what’s to come from Dyson.”
CEO, Xavier Campbell, said the Essendon family had been buoyed by the positive news of the past 24 hours.
“To have David Myers re-sign and now Dyson confirm his commitment to the Club is fantastic news for our members and supporters,” Campbell said.
“Dyson’s decision is a vote of confidence in the football program John Worsfold has established, a program we believe will help us achieve our vision of achieving sustained success in the future.”
List and Recruiting Manager, Adrian Dodoro, said Heppell will help bolster a midfield group that’s growing in strength.
“Dyson is an outstanding leader of our football Club, he’s hugely respected across the league, he’s an Essendon boy through and through and he bleeds red and black,” Dodoro said.
“Dyson has such a strong presence around contest, he’s an All-Australian player, and there’s no doubt his voice and work rate will be a huge bonus for us next season and beyond. He’s just an incredible person and athlete.”
Dyson signed a five year contract extension in 2015.
