Midfielder Darcy Parish is set to be available for Essendon’s Saturday fixture against GWS in Sydney.
After missing the past three weeks with a calf injury, Parish will be available for selection barring any hiccups throughout this week.
Head of high performance Sean Murphy said Parish was put through a thorough session on the weekend and ticked off the relevant preparation markers.
“Parish ticked off a really good session here at the NEC Hangar,” Murphy told Essendon FC’s Liberty Financial Performance Update.
“It was a really combative session, he ticked off all the markers we needed him to. He’ll train fully across this week and if he gets through ok, he’ll be available this weekend.”
Midfielder Jye Caldwell will miss at least one week after sustaining a low end calf strain.
Murphy said Caldwell was taken off in the third quarter after experiencing tightness throughout the game.
“’Calders’ had a bit of calf tightness across the game and the decision was to sub him off in that third quarter,” Murphy said,
“He’s got a little calf strain which is low end and so he’ll miss this weekend and we’ll assess next week of how we progress that.”
Dylan Shiel will also be unavailable for selection after sustaining a hamstring strain.
Shiel has begun running but a return to play is unknown at this stage.
“’Shiely’s’ picked up a low-end hamstring strain,” Murphy said.
“He obviously missed on the weekend, and he’ll miss again this week, so we’ll map out his program.
“He’s back up and running and ticking along nicely so we’ll assess (a return to play) in a week or so.”
