THE FANS RATING: 3 / 10

“Appears to have fallen behind recruits of 2002, but still shows potential. Needs to bulk up without losing speed and must show more confidence in own ability. Must get harder at the ball.” Wayne Haggar

“Showed good sign in the final against wc. Should be pushing for a weekly game next season.” Liam Ryan.

“James did not get much of a go this year which is disappointing because his pace is vital if we want to improve. Has a spot with his name on it in the seniors next year if he wants it.” Mark Mannion.

“Pretty hard to evaluate on the strength of one game in which he only had very limited on ground time. Would like to se him beef up a bit...and the same could be said of a lot of others on the list as well...Too many lean types there. We need more physical strength to match it with the Brisbane's and the West Coaster type juggernauts.” Grant Whitfield.

“Failed to make any impression at senior level. Probably behind players like Shane Harvey and Joel Reynolds in the pecking order.” Greg Mitchell.

“Still developing and well worth another year. Has speed and size but will need a big pre-season to give him a shot at Senior footy.” Simon Remington.

“I expected him to play more games this year. Looks to have silky skills but most likely needs a few games in a row to prove that. Has to step up next year.” John Ciccaldo.

“Showed exciting potential in pre-season competition, but little opportunity since. Has terrific pace and good kick. Should develop next season.” Robert Liddle.

THE WASH-UP:

Essendon fans haven’t seen a lot of Davies at senior level and that made him a difficult player to assess. Fans are impressed with his speed and skill and want to see him to really push for regular senior selection in 2003.The upcoming pre-season is critical to him, according to Essendon fans.

MARK HARVEY SAYS:

We would have preferred James to push his name in front of the selectors more than he did but having said that I think his game is developing. He is showing promising signs in defence and in the midfield. He is also developing physically and has put on between six and eight kilos since he came to Essendon. His confidence will grow as a result of that. He knows next year is a crunch season for him and I really hope we see him emerge as a quality senior player.
