With a history spanning a tremendous 150 years, there's no shortage of iconic Essendon moments and stories.
A key part of the Bombers' history lies within the success of the club's reign under club Legend John Coleman.
Michael Kearney & Phil Hoey’s book Coley’s Champs provides a snapshot into the Bombers' great era of success in the 1960s.
The book celebrates the triumphs and tribulations which surrounded the two Premierships won under the tutelage of Coleman in 1962 and '65.
Kearney & Hoey were privileged to grow up and support the club during this time, creating fond memories that they continue to carry forth.
Acting on their love for the club, both began their journey to carefully curate Coley’s Champs, a detailed historical recount of nearly every player that donned the sash throughout this period.
Two and a half years later, the book is finally prepared to go on sale Friday, July 1.
When asked why they dedicated their time to such a substantial task, the reason was simple.
“We want their story told so it can be there forever” Hoey said.
The book looks to capture not only the on-field success of the club, but what made the members of it tick, investigating their personal lives outside of football.
“We are Essendon tragics through and through.” Kearney said.
“Through each interviewee, you could begin to see how much the club meant to every single player and how instilled the sense of family was within each individual."
The stories told provide an unmatched perspective into what is an iconic period of Essendon Football Club history.
Coley’s Champs truly articulates the true feelings of being a part of the Bombers' in this era.
The sense of family is one that rings true with Essendon to this day as the club looks to continue to place emphasis on inclusivity, respect and commitment.
“Our book is truly one for the Essendon faithful and will be a fabulous addition to any Dons supporters library” Kearney said.
