PEVERILL FINDS A HOME .... AT LAST!!!
For the first time in his career, Damien Peverill will be included on an AFL senior list. Okay, technically he was on the senior list for 10 weeks during 2001, but only now does it feel like the real thing for the 22-year-old. Clubs are required to submit their initial playing lists for season 2002 to the AFL on Wednesday, October 31st. And the Essendon Football Club list will include the name Damien Peverill. Peverill's inclusion will come as no surprise to anybody who saw him play last season - he was sensational for the essendon seniors before having to return to the rookie list and the VFL side. But it was a stint which has set him up for 2002 and beyond.

""It has been a long time coming,"" a relieved Peverill said today. ""It is really good to know that you are on the list because for the past four or five years I really haven't known where I will be playing from one year to the next. It is a real weight of my shoulders and I'm really excited about pre-season. It's all systems go and I can just worry about playing football now.""
Peverill has signed a two-year deal with the Bombers and he will be an important addition to the Bombers midfield. The Essendon Engine Room has been boosted significantly in the past 24 hours with confirmation Peverill will be on the senior list and the re-signing of star centreman Joe Misiti. They will be key players for the midfield unit which copped its fair share of criticism last year.
Peverill missed a chunk of football last season immediately after he returned to the rookie list. Stress fractures of the foot saw him miss most of the remainder of the home and away season before making a late re-appearance in the VFL elimination finals' side. Peverill said that having had some rest, the foot now feels good.
""I have had a couple of runs in the past week or so and it has felt really good. I haven't felt it even when I have cooled down which is a good sign. I'll be ready to do a full pre-season,"" he said.
Bomber big man Steve Alessio is currently recovering from Shoulder surgery. Alessio has been carrying the shoulder injury for the majority of the 2001 season, however was able to continue playing. “I taped the shoulder each game for extra support and was able to play the season out without too many concerns,” Alessio said. Alessio went under the knife three weeks ago and is recovering at home at the moment. “It is very sore and it will be in a sling until the start of November,” Alessio said. “It is a slight inconvenience however I was glad to have the shoulder looked at and cleaned out.” Alessio intends to be ready to commence pre-season training with the team. “The shoulder surgery should not affect my pre-season, which is good,” Alessio said.
