The Tiwi Bombers will be looking to make history tonight, when they take on Nightcliff in the highly anticipated Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Grand Final.

Essendon Football Club is a proud sponsor of the Tiwi Islands’ football team, and the Bombers will be on a mission to secure their first premiership since entering the competition in 2007.

Essendon senior coach James Hird sent his message of support from Windy Hill for the Tiwi Bombers.

“On behalf of everyone at the Essendon Football Club, we wish the Tiwi Bombers all the very best for tomorrow night’s grand final,” Hird said.

“We are extremely proud of the partnership between Essendon and the Tiwi Bombers and this is a significant milestone for the Tiwi Bombers.”

Essendon community manager Nick Hannett said the Tiwi Bombers grand final berth would have a significant impact upon the local Tiwi community.

“The Tiwi Bombers have had an incredible impact on the Tiwi community on a number of levels, which run much deeper than just football,” Hannett said.

“There have been many social issues on the Tiwi Islands and the Tiwi Bombers has been a tremendously positive initiative that has assisted in brining the local community together and a tremendous sense of unity and pride.”

The atmosphere at TIO stadium in Darwin will be electric with a crowd of 10,000 people and more than 2000 local Tiwi people expected to make the journey to Darwin to watch their beloved Tiwi Bombers tonight.
