Essendon's Victorian Wheelchair Football League side has put its best foot forward in aiming to go one better in 2022.

After a devastating Grand Final loss to Collingwood last season, the VWFL Dons sit undefeated in second place on the VWFL ladder, with one less game in hand and a lesser percentage to Richmond being the only obstacle to a top-of-the-table position.

The Bombers’ three victories over Hawthorn (84 points), Collingwood (45 points) and Richmond (seven points) have reaffirmed their credentials as a genuine premiership threat.

Rookie sensation Vinnie Falcone has been a shining light this season, featuring prominently in the Dons’ terrific form.

James Leonard has been a rock in defence, while forward Caleb Logan has been dominant up forward.

Essendon has also seen strong performances in the introduction of the inaugural VWFL development competition.

In its first year of competition, the Dons’ development side also sits in second place, having registered two wins, a draw and a loss, highlighting the strong depth across the club's wheelchair program.

Round five of the VWFL continues this Sunday when both the seniors and development sides face St Kilda at Boroondara Sports Complex.
