Essendon VFL can put itself in the box seat to clinch a top-four position with a win against Footscray on Friday night.
The VFL Dons play their first game under lights this year in front of what’s expected to be a big crowd at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo tomorrow night.
“We’ve got two games to go and if we get a win this week, we set ourselves up at a chance for a top-four spot,” VFL Co-Coach Mark Corrigan said.
“When you get that double chance you’re obviously better off.”
Mark Corrigan steps up to the VFL head-coaching role after his brother - Paul-moved up to look after the backline in the AFL.
“It’s a welcome surprise,” Mark Corrigan said.
“I’m really excited by the opportunity to coach these guys, but essentially not much changes - it’s the same message, jut a different voice.”
It’s a chance for the VFL Bombers to redeem themselves after they were outplayed by the Bulldogs just three weeks ago.
Tom Boyd who booted three goals when the teams last met, has booted a further seven goals in the last two weeks.
Footscray now rank 2nd in the VFL for points scored highlighting the extent of their firepower up forward.
“They’re a good side and they will be good again,” Corrigan said.
“For us, it’s about trying to arrest momentum.
“We got scored heavily against in periods of play against them, so if we can minimise that when they’ve got the momentum and take our opportunities when they come then we’re a good chance.”
