Essendon assistant coach Mark Harvey believes his side's tackling could hold the key to victory over Port Adelaide this Saturday night. Speaking on Essendon's Club Corner program on Sport 927 last night, Harvey said tackling had been a feature of Sydney's win last weekend. ""I was really impressed by the Swan's tackling. Every time they tackled they either pinned the ball or an arm which ensured a stoppage resulted,"" Harvey said.

Sydney was superb when beating Port Adelaide last weekend. Its hardness at the ball and work in close was a feature of the victory. ""We must ensure we do that and match the sort of intensity Sydney had around each contest,"" Harvey said.

Harvey wasn't the least bit concerned by suggestions out of Port Adelaide that this weekend's match would be a ""crash and bash"" affair. ""If they are focussing on that then their minds might not be on the job. They might give a lot of free kicks away and that might give us some momentum. We aren't concerned about those comments at all - we've got players who can dish out as much as they serve up,"" Harvey said.

Essendon has pulled one of the selection suprises of September when picking the recently-retired Paul Barnard for the first semi-final. ""There are a couple of roles that he can play - forward or back,"" Harvey said. ""I think we have three or four possible match-ups for Warren Tredrea - hopefully the first one works but if not Paul might be an option. If not we can push him forward where I am sure he will make his presence felt,"" Harvey said.

""Paul is a very experienced finals' campaigner and he will give us another avenue to goal. In horse-racing terms - if you were going on trackwork then Paul was the obvious selection. He has been very good at training.""

Harvey is certain Warren Tredrea will line-up for Port Adelaide. ""He has apparently got the flu - that is generally gone in 24 or 48 hours. There is no doubt he will play,' Harvey said.
