Football operations manager Paul Hamilton said even the lure of playing in their first pre-season competition grand final since 2000 wouldn't distract the Bombers from the bigger picture.
"We will look at [resting players] because that was part of our plan when we started our campaign," Hamilton said on Monday.
"We were fortunate to have a week off and now we've had another game, so in terms of our preparation, we will look at what's right for round one and that's always been the case.
"We need to discuss it with the high performance coach and also the players themselves, about what is their best preparation for round one.
"That's going to be the key. I would suggest there would be probably two or three guys rested this week in terms of getting them up for round one."
The Bombers first round match is on March 29 against Port Adelaide.
Skipper Matthew Lloyd wants to play three competitive games in the pre-season and, having already participated in two games, could be given a week off – against his will.
"He'll be a consideration, but I believe he's pretty keen to keep playing," Hamilton said.
"For him, he finds match fitness the best way of getting fit and I believe he's already spoken about wanting to put the boots on.
"We'll need to speak to some other people as well but he's pretty keen to go ahead."
Midfielder Brent Stanton could come into the side after overcoming a quad injury, but Kyle Reimers (quad tendonitis) is rated a "very outside chance".
"Stanton is probably the one. We'll have a training run tomorrow and if he gets through that, we'll expect Stanton to come through," Hamilton said.
"I know he's very keen to do so, so he's probably the only one coming back from injury.
"There's a couple of guys who have put their hands up in terms of reserves footy but he's probably the one we'll see play his first game."
The Bombers are looking forward to adding another Friday night clash to their pre-season schedule when they take on Collingwood in what looms as a battle between two of Victoria's biggest clubs.
"For us, it's an opportunity to play a better brand of football, a better standard, and just play against one of the three Victorian sides up in the semi-finals," Hamilton said.
"That tribal warfare we think is going to come back onto the field and us against Collingwood always makes for a great game.
"We're just excited we're able to meet Collingwood so early in a pre-season game and hopefully play some terrific football."
