Essendon’s Patrick Ryder joined Federal Minister for Finance Lindsay Tanner to welcome Australia’s newest citizens in a citizenship ceremony held at Windy Hill on Sunday.

Run in conjunction with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), the ceremony welcomed 26 new Australian citizens in the unique setting of the Essendon Football Club Hall of Fame. This was the the third citizenship ceremony held at Windy Hill in partnership with DIAC.

Essendon community manager Russell James said the ceremony was just one of the steps Essendon are taking to help contribute to a positive and engaging experience for recently arrived migrants and refugees.

“These citizenship ceremonies form an important part of the club's overall community engagement strategy,” James said.

“This strategy involves using the EFC brand as a vehicle to help provide more positive experiences for newly arrived migrants and refugees and contribute to social cohesion”.
