Adam Cooney will miss the Bombers clash with Melbourne because of a hamstring injury.
The Brownlow medalist was substituted during Essendon’s match against St Kilda last Sunday.
Scans revealed damage to his hamstring.
“He’s got a strained hamstring on the inside of the thigh which is a slightly unusual spot,” Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.
“He’ll miss the next two to three weeks.”
Cooney has booted ten goals in his nine matches for the Bombers so far this year.
He’ll join Jobe Watson on the sidelines.
The Essendon Captain has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
