It has been some time since Essendon produced its best football in the pre-season competition, but you get the feeling they want to be more than competitive this time around. It is not always the best guide to what follows when the real stuff begins - just ask Carlton supporters - but it is still important that the Bombers show some good signs against Brisbane on tonight.
