Brendon Goddard has reassured supporters that success is just around the corner for the Essendon Football Club.
Speaking at Saturday night’s ‘Milestone and Hall of Fame’ induction night, Goddard spoke of the team’s current situation which sees them sit at 13th place with four wins and eight losses.
Goddard sees this disappointing patch as a necessary part of future success.
“I think you have to experience these times for the learning curve and to experience the lulls to enjoy the highs,” Goddard said.
“I truly believe we’re in a position to challenge.
“We’re obviously struggling at the minute, but in the next couple of years we’re going to challenge for the top four and go deep into September.”
The versatile midfielder was honoured on Saturday night for the leadership that he has shown right through his 250 game career, but more particularly for the important role he has played for Essendon both on and off the field.
Joining the club in 2013 as a free agent, Goddard has no regrets about moving to Essendon and is still as excited and inspired as the first day he walked in.
“I can honestly look everyone in the eyes and say I have no regrets,” Goddard said on moving to Essendon.
“I’ve loved every minute and I stick by my decision.”
With Essendon’s season truly on the line Goddard believes that the attention needs to be solely on performing as a team and building on something that will be there in the future.
“We should just think about performing and getting the best out of it,” Goddard said.
“There’s no reason we can’t keep building and I can guarantee that the results will be turned around quite quickly.”
