Dean Rioli was called into Kevin Sheedy's office early in 1999 and told he was replacing an injured James Hird on the senior list. Hird was put on the long-term injury list after his troublesome foot again let him down. Sheedy looked at Dean and handed him James Hird's tag - the tag he used on his magnetic board when shuffling the team around. Sheedy told Dean to look at it and remember who he was replacing and how important it was that he make an impact in his first season. The tag is still stuck on Rioli's fridge door today. Dean told this story on Bomber radio on Sunday night. Go to Merc's Clips to listen to the full interview.
