Utility Matt Guelfi has signed a one-year deal to remain a Bomber until at least the end of 2022.

Drafted with pick No.76 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, the 24-year-old has featured 61 times for the red and black in his four-year career.

A hard-working and tenacious player, the Claremont product has been rewarded for his effort and pressure in games, highlighted by a career-high nine tackles in the Dons’ round 15 match against Melbourne.

Swung between the midfield and defence in 2021, Guelfi has become a versatile option for the Bombers who can translate his game into a variety of positions.

Guelfi said he was delighted to remain at the NEC Hangar.

“I’m excited to sign a new deal with the club,” Guelfi said.

“This season has been an exciting one to be a part of, and I’ve loved seeing how much we’ve been able to grow as a playing group in such a short time under ‘Truck’ (senior coach Ben Rutten).

“I’m really pleased I’m able to remain at the club and continue my development as a player as I’m desperate to be part of the future success of this club.

“I can’t wait to see what the rest of this season and next year holds.”

General manager of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro said Guelfi’s new deal was a testament to the determination he’s shown this season.

“We’re very happy to have Matt sign again with us for next season,” Dodoro said.

“He came to us at the end of 2017 as a mature draftee and he’s been able to make an immediate impact in his time at the club.

“We really rate Matt’s effort and intensity around the contest, and we know he’s a player who’s really driven to get the best out of himself.
