Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce, Jake Stringer, will Don the Sash in 2018, after a trade was finalised with the Western Bulldogs.
Stringer has agreed to a four year deal which will see him at the club until the end of 2021.
The Dons received Stringer, in exchange for pick 25 and 30 in the 2017 National Draft.
Stringer said he’s looking forward to a fresh start at the Bombers.
“The move to Essendon is a great opportunity and new beginning for me both on and off the field,” Stringer said.
“I’m focused on being the best footballer, parent and person I can be, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity in front of me.
“I want to thank the Bulldogs, and their amazing fans, for the support they provided me over the past five years. They will always hold a special place in my heart.
“The most important people in my life are my two little girls, and I look forward to sharing this new journey with them.
“I’m excited about the opportunity at Essendon, they play a great brand of football, and I can’t wait to get in and start earning the respect of my new teammates who are determined to achieve success.”
Stringer brings great experience and talent to the Club, he’s a premiership player, All-Australian and the Bulldogs’ leading goal kicker in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Senior Coach, John Worsfold, said Stringer will play a variety of roles for the team.
“It’s great to have Jake on board for the next four years,” Worsfold said.
“While Jake has traditionally played forward, we believe he can also play an important role for us through the midfield as well.
“Jake obviously adds talent to our team, and importantly, he understands the cultural standards and values the team has established and will be expected of him.
“Jake has committed to our shared vision, and we now look forward to seeing him put in the hard work over the summer to get ready for the 2018 season.”
Stringer joins Devon Smith and Adam Saad to join the Bombers during the trade period.
Essendon List and Recruiting Manager, Adrian Dodoro, said Stringer’s signing caps off a busy period for the Club.
“We’re excited to have someone of Jake’s calibre join the Club,” Dodoro said.
“Jake is a great young man. He has fully demonstrated that he is committed to our values and becoming an elite player in the competition.
“Jake will be able to play a number of roles for the Club, including through the midfield and deep in the forward line.
“His flair and quick-thinking on the field makes him an exciting addition to our list.”
Stringer was selected by Western Bulldogs in the 2012 Draft. He played 89 games for the Dogs and kicked 160 goals.
