Essendon’s latest recruit Adam Saad will be out to earn the respect of his teammates when pre-season gets underway next month.
The former Gold Coast player has signed a three year deal with the Bombers and has set himself the goal of completing every session in the lead up to the 2018 season.
“Consistency in the pre-season is what builds you for the season ahead,” Saad said.
"I’m just looking forward to coming in and getting the respect of my teammates, the coaches and everyone at the Club.
“I’m really just trying to improve everyday.
“It’s really exciting and humbling to finally be on Essendon’s list and I’m really grateful for the opportunity they’ve given me.”
Saad’s signature marks a homecoming for the former Coburg VFL player.
The rebounding defender was selected by Gold Coast with the 25th pick in the 2015 Rookie Draft.
“It has been tough the last three years without my family but now mentally knowing I can go home and see family and see friends … I’m hoping to improve and take my game to the next level,” he said.
Saad played 48 games with Gold Coast and led the competition for running bounces in 2017.
He will join a defensive group that includes two-time All Australian Michael Hurley, Michael Hartley, Patrick Ambrose and small defenders Martin Gleeson, Conor McKenna and Mark Baguley.
“Hopefully I can bring some rebound and lock down on the small forwards on the other team,” Saad said.
“There was interest from a couple of clubs but as soon as I spoke to Essendon I just felt at home straight away.
“I’m just really excited to be part of such a great culture and such a great Club.
“I’m really excited with the list and what we’re striving to do.”
