Playing under John Worsfold, the facilities and the big crowds were all key reasons behind Josh Green’s decision to sign with the Bombers.

The former Brisbane Lion completed a one-year deal today and will commence pre-season training with his new Club in the coming weeks.

“To be a part of this great Club – one of the biggest in the country – is an absolute honour and hopefully I can help out and get them back up to where they belong, which is up the top,” he said.

“John Worsfold – meeting him and just (hearing) his philosophy on football, the facilities and the elite environment were the main attractions.

“I’ve met a couple of the boys and they seem like good fellas so I can’t wait to get started.”

Green, a small forward, played 81 games and kicked 107 goals for Brisbane after making his debut in 2011.

He said he sought counsel from Bombers ruckman Matthew Leuenberger, also a former Lion, throughout the last few weeks.

“I’ve been in contact with ‘Leuy’ for a while now.  He promoted the Club really well and once I knew I was up for trade I came through for a tour and was thoroughly impressed with the organisation,” he said.

“The chance to play in front of 70-90,000 people is going to be something I’m not used to.

“I get the chance to do that next year and ‘Leuy’ did talk about the crowds and that’s something I’m going to have to get used to.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to repay them for the faith.”

A foot problem reduced Green’s output in 2016 but the 24 year old is fit again and looking to return to the form that saw him lead the Lions goal kicking in 2014 and 2015.

“I’ll look to bring a bit of excitement and the ability to bring a bit of pace through the midfield,” he said.

“I do love kicking a goal but I do have some things I need to work on.

“I’ve had a few foot problems which are all sorted which is good.  I just want to get fit again, have a full pre-season and hopefully play a small part next year.”
