Essendon has secured picks 29 and 68 in the 2016 NAB AFL National Draft in a deal that sees Michael Hibberd find a new home at Melbourne.
The Bombers also sent pick 59 in this year’s draft to the Demons.
Hibberd was recruited from VFL side Frankston and played 84 games with Essendon before expressing his desire to continue his career with Melbourne next season.
“Obviously we’re disappointed to lose Michael who has been a quality player for us over a number of seasons,” Essendon List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro said.
“We wish him all the best at Melbourne and thank him for the contribution he made to the Club.
“Once Michael declared his intention to leave, we sought to achieve the best possible outcome.
“We’re pleased we were able to secure another pick in this year’s National Draft.
“We now have three selections in the top 30 picks, including the number one selection, so to have the opportunity to add some more top end talent to our group is really exciting.”
Essendon currently holds picks 1, 20, 29, 41, 68 and 77 in the NAB AFL National Draft.
