Essendon has upgraded young midfielder, Will Hams, onto the Club’s senior list ahead of Saturday night’s clash with Fremantle at Subiaco Oval. Ironically his last senior game was against Fremantle in Round 6, 2015.
Hams was upgraded as a Long Term Injury Replacement for Jonathan Simpkin who remains on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Ham’s elevation is reward for his persistence. After a frustrating run of injury in 2015, the 21-year old was de-listed before being re-drafted by the Club as a rookie. Given a second chance Hams was determined not to let the opportunity slip. He worked tirelessly over the pre-season with the ambition of earning a senior recall.
Ham’s hard block of training over the summer has resulted in some impressive performances at VFL level so far this season, with the tough in and under player averaging 23 disposals per game.
Rated highly internally for his ability and positive attitude, Ham’s elevation is one of the feel good stories of the season.
Hams has played five senior games for the Bombers since making his debut against the Swans in Round 10, 2013.
