Paul Little has officially stood down as Essendon Chairman.

Little assumed the role in July 2013 and has helped the Club maintain its strong financial position despite continued off-field pressure.

“I have been overwhelmed by the incredible support, the loyalty and the passion of the Essendon members and the love we all share for our great Club,” he said.

“It has been a difficult and challenging period for our Club.  Every decision our Board has made has been in the best interests of our players, our members and of course, the football club as a whole.”

Little endorsed former Federal politician Lindsay Tanner as the person to succeed him and also announced former Victorian Police Chief Commissioner Ken Lay would join the Board.

Throughout Little’s time as Chairman, Essendon has produced record membership, record revenue and completed the training facility in Tullamarine.

“Our members and supporters have played an enormous role in helping the Club achieve these results,” Little said.

“While we all justifiably somewhat frustrated surrounding the events of ASADA and WADA, including the ongoing issues relating to the WADA appeal, our Board, staff, players and you the members, have remained resilient, loyal and focused during this period.

“At the same time we have delivered a number of outstanding achievements that will lay the foundations for our Club into the future.”

Little acknowledged former Coach James Hird for the outstanding contribution he made to the football club.

“James is a legend of our Club and a legend of the game of AFL,” Little said.

“He will always be part of the Essendon family and he will always be welcome at Essendon.”

Little said the implementation of the Club’s strategic plan would provide a framework for sustained success.

Over the next few years the Club will aim to continue to rebuild the Essendon brand, find greater operational efficiencies, repay debt and enhance the Club’s culture.

Essendon is also focused on establishing ‘Country Game’ as one of the competition’s most anticipated matches, reinvigorate the Windy Hill venue and develop a plan to further enhance the True Value Solar Centre.
