Essendon Coach John Worsfold said prior to the draft he wanted to bolster the Club’s forward stocks and in Mason Redman he may have found someone who can help in that area in the years to come.
Redman stands 186 cm tall, played senior football in the SANFL this season and is regarded as a classy forward with a terrific burst of speed.
“His ability overhead and smarts around goal make him a dangerous forward,” AFL Draft expert Callum Twomey said.
“Redman has a mix of traits that will see him play all over the ground, and he can win his own ball but also deliver it well.
“He will continue to develop his frame, but is seen as one of South Australia's most exciting players.”
Glenelg Football Manager Paul Sandercock said Redman was also given some time in defence this season.
“Mason played state under 18’s and he’s a ripper,” he said.
“He came down from the country this season and played some under 18 games and a dozen reserves games and finished with a couple of senior appearances.
“He played half back/midfield and forward and is one of those players that can win the footy inside and outside, likes to run and carry and take the game on.”
