John Worsfold has left the door open for former Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd to return to the Club in 2016.

Lloyd worked closely with Joe Daniher as the Club’s goal kicking coach last season, but won’t have an official role next year.

Still, Worsfold said Lloyd would be welcomed back if the need arose.

“If Joe in a month’s time just wanted to have a refresher with him then we’ll welcome Matty back to have some of that interaction with him,” Worsfold said.

“Matt will always have a connection, I’ve got no doubt about that.

“If he feels like he needs to take Joe for a dozen shots at goal, he doesn’t have to sneak offsite somewhere, he’s more than welcome to come in to the footy club.”

Under Lloyd’s guidance, Daniher booted 34 goals in 2015, his most prolific return in his 48 game career.

“Joe feels like he’s really happy with the tools and processes and systems that Matt has put in place for him,” Worsfold said.

“He’s got that now, he knows all that stuff.  So he’s pretty well right to keep working on that.

“He (Lloyd) felt it was going to clash too much with what his main role is in footy which is in the media.

“That’s fully understandable but he’s still welcome to talk to Joe and to come down.”
