Essendon Captain Jobe Watson was among a handful of Bombers players at the Club to greet John Worsfold on his first day as Senior Coach.
With the off-season in full swing, much of the playing group is overseas.
About a dozen came in to the True Value Solar Centre to hear from the new Coach while many others dialed in to a conference call.
“It was just a really open discussion about where he saw us and where we saw ourselves and I suppose getting on the same page about where we wanted the Club to head and how quickly we can get there,” Watson said.
“A little bit about his philosophies, his experience, what he thought he would bring to the Club and where he wanted it to go.
“I think he’s very clear on how he sees the game and how it needs to be taught and how it needs to be played.
“He has real clarity in how he wants his teams to play and he certainly seems to promote the ownership of the playing group and willing to help drive the standards and culture which the players want.”
Watson missed the second half of the 2015 season with a shoulder injury, but is making progress in his recovery.
“The shoulder is tracking well,” he said.
“It’s over 12 weeks now (since the operation) so full range back, no need to rush back into the contested ball stuff but by the time pre-season starts in November I’ll be right to go.”
