Jayden Laverde will get the chance to live out a childhood dream when he runs out on to the MCG tomorrow.
Essendon selected Laverde with the 20th pick in last year’s National Draft.
“It’s what I really played footy for – this day coming,” Laverde said.
“I imagine it’s going to be the best feeling of my life running out as an Essendon supporter and finally getting the chance to put on the jumper.”
Laverde has been impressive in the VFL this season averaging five marks and four tackles across his 10 games.
“It’s more about earning your games rather than being given a game,” Laverde said.
“That’s something big at the club.
“I’ve had a few good weeks and hopefully I can take that in to this week’s game.”
Laverde will be one of 12 players with less than 50 games experience for the Bombers tomorrow.
He’s expected to play mainly in the forward half, but one day hopes to graduate to the midfield.
“Eventually I want to move in to the midfield and play predominantly through there, then be able to go forward and make a difference,” Laverde said.
“That’s what I want to work towards in the coming years.”
