As a player, he was a solid defender and centreman whose career coincided with a golden era for the club.  What he lacked in speed, he made up for in determination.

He arrived at the club after playing with North Essendon Methodists.  He made his debut for the Bombers in 1947 and played alongside some of football’s greatest players including Dick Reynolds, Bill Hutchison and later John Coleman.

Allanson was on the half back flank in the losing 1947 grand final team and later played in Essendon’s 1950 premiership side.  After his Essendon career finished he went on to play with Williamstown.

Noel Allanson returned to Windy Hill as an administrator where he served as Vice President of the club in 1976 and 1977 and as Treasurer from 1978 to early 1991.

Allanson was an excellent financial manager with the highest ethical standards and attention to detail.

As well as playing football Allanson also played cricket for Victoria.
